Whitworth’s Track & Field squad continued to round out a successful 2009 season at the University of Idaho Saturday, May 9.

Among a number of Division I teams from the Northwest, the Pirates could not be overlooked in their events. Sophomore sprinter Elizabeth Mattila in the women’s 400-meter hurdles placed atop the winning stand.

Junior distance runner Emmanuel Bofa continued his season with a win in the 400-meter dash over a 15-man field. Junior teammate Dusty Caseria placed first in the 800-meter run. Senior Joey VanHoomissen placed second in the javelin throw.

The Pirates will compete in the Sasquatch Carnival at Spokane Falls Community College at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 13. For those whose team members that will be competing, the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Competition will be held May 21 to 23 in Marietta, Ohio. Whitworth has had upwards of eight athletes already qualify for the competition.
