John Ellings

Year: Senior
Major: History
Minors: Theology

Who are you?
I'm hail Issaquah, Wash. My family's been a great blessing to me, including my older sister and two awesome younger siblings (ages 11 and 13).

What do you do and why is it important?
I coordinate all of Whitworth intramurals - from hiring referees and scheduling season sports to putting together tournaments.

What main issues or ideas do you hope to focus on while you serve on ASWU?
To offer a wide variety of sports to the students. I'm hoping to get as many people as possible involved, because it's not only a lot of fun, but also a great outlet to get your mind off school and get to know some fellow Whitworthians.

What is at least one common misconception about your work or ASWU?
A lot of people dismiss ASWU right away in a similar fashion to Sodexo. However, once you put in the time to learn about what kind of influence we have, you'll probably change your mind.

What is important for students to know about your work?
That it's a job meant for a student to hold. Most schools delegate this work to an adult, but I believe that it's valuable to be student run because the coordinator can connect, appeal and feel accountable to his/her peers.
