Noted historian to give address at undergraduate commencement

Historian Ronald C. White Jr. is scheduled to speak at Whitworth’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Spokane Arena.

White is a scholar on Abraham Lincoln and has written eight books, including "A. Lincoln: A Biography", "Lincoln’s Greatest Speech: The Second Inaugural" and "The Eloquent President: A Portrait of Lincoln Through His Words."

He attended University of California- Los Angeles and then Princeton Theological Seminary, where he received a Ph.D. in religion and history.

White has taught at Princeton Theological Seminary, Colorado College, San Francisco Theological Seminary as the dean and professor of American Religious history, here at Whitworth and is currently a visiting professor of history at UCLA.

White is also a fellow at the Huntington Library in San Marino, Calif.

In April 2002, he appeared on "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" where he was interviewed by Ray Suarez about his work about Lincoln.

He has also lectured on Abraham Lincoln at the White House, the Library of Congress and at Gettysburg, according to his Web site.

More than 500 undergraduates will participate in the graduation ceremony Sunday.
