U.N. science panel issues report on climate change

A United Nations scientific panel issued a report Nov. 17 from Spain emphasizing the need for action on the climate change.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, which was presented by U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, warns of irreversible effects of the rising levels of greenhouse gases.

Ki-moon also appealed to the United States and China to act, the world's two largest emitters of greenhouse gases.

The report said world temperatures are expected to rise approximately 0.2 degrees Celsius per decade.

The report was written by 2,500 scientists appointed by governments from around the world.
