After being level for much of the match, a late goal proved to be enough as the Whitworth women's soccer team took the 2-1 victory from Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. Saturday.

Whitworth senior midfielder Jael Hagerott scored the first goal of the match in the 8th minute to put the Pirates up to an early 1-0 lead. Linfield responded quickly with a 16th minute goal by freshman Sara Blake to level the match. The half ended without any more goals, sending the teams in to the half time intermission even at 1-1.

The two teams remained at a stalemate until the 76th minute when Whitworth freshman Kaylyn Plumb received the assist from junior Penelope Crowe to put in the Pirates’ second and deciding goal. Although tested by a determined Linfield team, Whitworth came out on top to improve their Northwest Conference record to 8-1-0.

The Pirates continue in their hunt for the number one spot in the conference by looking to snatch it from current leaders University of Puget Sound. The match on Sunday, Oct. 14 at Pacific will conclude Whitworth’s weekend long road trip as they face off in Forest Grove, Ore. at noon. Whitworth won the match between the two teams at the Whitworth Soccer complex 3-0 in September.
