The Pirate football team jumped out to an early lead on the game's opening drive and never looked back as Whitworth eased to a 49-0 victory over the Menlo College Oaks Saturday at the Pine Bowl.
Sophomore running back Adam Anderson rolled for 90 yards and two touchdowns and defensive playmakers Ryan Marshall and Marc Grow each returned an interception for a score. The stout Pirate defense limited Menlo to only 157 total yards on the afternoon.
Tailbacks Milton Nelson and Chris Ahsing also had touchdowns for Whitworth, who improved their record to 3-1 overall and notched their first conference win of the year. Junior quarterback Jon Luke completed a 22-yard strike to sophomore tight end Justin Wimberly in the fourth quarter for the game's last touchdown.
Grow racked up six tackles, a forced fumble, two quarterback hurries, and the interception during the game. Freshman linebacker Layton Brown posted a breakout performance with eight tackles, three of which for a loss.
The Pirates end their three game homestand with a visit from Pacific Lutheran University next weekend during Whitworth's 2007 Homecoming/Hall of Fame Game. The game begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
