The University of Puget Sound completed a stunning 2-1 comeback victory over the Whitworth Pirates men's soccer team Sunday in soggy conditions at Peyton Field in Tacoma.
Junior forward Caleb Barnhill put Whitworth ahead in the 69th minute when he rocketed a shot from 15 yards out past UPS senior goalkeeper Pete Van Sant.
The Loggers knotted things up in the 80th minute, though, as senior midfielder Scott Blanchet put away a goal during a scramble in front of Whitworth's net.
Blanchet rang up another goal in overtime, scoring the match-winner in the 97th minute on a cross from senior midfielder Greg Swanson.
UPS took over first place in the conference with the win, moving to 4-0-0 in the league after the game. The Pirates dropped to 5-1-0 and second place with the loss.
Whitworth will look to get back on the winning track when they host Whitman next Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
