Senior forward Curtis Flournoy scored in the 48th minute to lift the Bucs to a 1-0 victory at Pacific Lutheran University Saturday.
Senior midfielder Matt Friesen assisted on Flournoy's winning goal, which helped to avenge a 1-0 defeat to PLU during the teams' final meeting last season.
Sophomore goalkeeper Scott Barnum made two saves to record his sixth straight shutout. The Pirates shut down a lethal PLU attack, holding the Lutes to just four total shots.
The Pirates dominated the point of attack, claiming a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks and launching seven shots on goal.
Whitworth moved to 7-1-1 on the year, and 5-0-0 in Northwest Conference play. The conference leading Pirates will butt heads with current NWC champion University of Puget Sound at 2:30 p.m. in Tacoma on Sept. 29.
