WARREN SENATOR:

Jeremiah Sataraka

Year: Senior
Major: Sociology

Who are you?
This is a difficult question to answer succinctly because "who I am" would take pages to explain, but I'll try to keep my explanation limited to a couple of sentences. I was born in Tacoma, Wash. to a father (born and raised in American Samoa), and a mother (born and raised in South Korea) who taught me through their unconditional love and impeccable work ethic the meaning of honoring God, following Christ and serving humanity. I have a younger brother (6'2'', 250 lbs.) who is a junior at the University of Idaho, which also happens to be the same school that Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin attended; and a younger sister who began her first year at Aylen Junior High School in Puyallup, Wash. a couple of weeks ago. I'm blessed to call Whitworth University not only my school, but my second home because of Act Six.

What do you do and why is it important?
"What, What?"
"Warren!"
I represent the beautiful residents of Warren Hall. As the Senator, the residents of Warren Hall have trusted me with the responsibility of making wise and informed decisions. My position is important because I connect student life and student government in a way that is accessible and relevant to the Warren family.

What main issues or ideas do you hope to focus on while you serve on ASWU?
My main focus is to represent the residents of Warren Hall. I recognize the undeniable fact that I have my own biases concerning many issues that will be brought up throughout the school year, but I hope to make decisions in ASWU based on the opinions of the Warren residents and keep them informed. It's called the Associated Students of Whitworth University for a reason - my focus this year is on the students.

What is at least one common misconception about your work or ASWU?
One common misconception about the senator is that the position is not really connected to the other residence hall leadership team members. The senator can be perceived as a separate entity from the RAs, CDAs, Medics and SGCs but in reality this position cannot exist or function effectively and efficiently without the others.

What is important for students to know about your work?
Students should know that I love Whitworth University because of the impact it has had (and will continue to have) on my life. I've lived in Warren Hall since my freshmen year serving as a resident, CDA, RA and now senator. Some students might ask, "Why Warren for so long?" My answer is besides the fact that Warren is one of the best places to live on campus, our fearless leader, resident director Tyler Pau is one of the best guys I know! He is my RD, my mentor, my friend and my brother.
